Aquaman
Okay, I am really excited for this movie! I am hoping it is as good as the previews suggest, and I hope it can rival Wonder Woman. Superman (the latest installments) with Henry Cavill, I enjoyed as well. DC Comics has always lagged behind Marvel with their movies but I am always hopeful that they will be as good as the Marvel franchise movies. Batman vs Superman and Justice League were okay, but there is room for improvement on those, but so far the hero independent films (Wonder Woman, Superman) have been well done.
It comes out December 14 of this year, so if your a movie junkie like I am, maybe be a bit excited?!

A Star Is Born
My emotions through this movie….

If you have seen any of the original movies (this is a “remake”) you will have an idea the direction this will go. I thought for sure that I totally had it figured out…but yeah, I didn’t…..
Bradley and Lady Gaga aka. Stephanie (her real name) put on some WICKED (that means amazing, great, powerful etc) performances.
The music is soulful, and only brings further depth to the star studded cast (Sam Elliot, Rafi Gavron, Dave Chepelle, Alec Baldwin (very small part) along with Cooper and Gaga).
Gaga, what an amazing acting debut. Incredible!
And Cooper. Holy cow, this man is talented. Easily his best performance (Oscar worthy) and not only did he star in this film, he directed it. And if all that wasn’t enough, he sings in it. Yes, that is him really singing!
This movie was dogged my film producers as they tried to convince Cooper against making it. The feeling was that the last remake with Streisand and Kristofferson was not touchable (that film was also amazing) and couldn’t be out-done.
Cooper proved them wrong with this film, keeping the same general story line but putting his spin on it. And it is amazing. Although I knew in general what would happen, I did not see it in the way Cooper did, as he brought it to new life.
It is heart rendering and thought provoking. This movie doesn’t leave you. As I laid in bed last night thinking about it, I thought that there was no other better tribute to Cooper’s film than that. Any movie that can have you laying in bed, wracking your brain about how things “could’ve been different” is a powerful testament to any story told on film.
The story between Ally and Jack is real, and palpable. Gaga and Cooper have a chemistry that is undeniable, and you forget that you’re watching a movie. Their relationship is wracked with problems, but their love deep. Bobby (Sam Elliot) and Jack struggle as two brothers from a broken home, each trying to overcome denoms that seem determined to break them further. There are other more superficial relationships (ally and her father, ally and her manager, and friends that try to be supportive) that also play into the overall feel of this movie that delivers life, and its relationships, at its most vulnerable.
The last two days, we were able to attend a local theater and we could watch any movie, as many movies, as much as we wanted over those two days (and eat as much popcorn and pop that we wanted) as a “thank you” via work (our (rather large) department). It was pretty awesome, especially if you love movies, which I DO!
I saw two movies the first day, A Simple Favor with my friend Stacey early in the day. We both really liked it! Then Chad, Darek, Nolan and I went to A House with a Clock in its Walls that evening, again good, and Noli loved it!
If you know anything about me, you know that I am a Marvel fan and love that genre of film! I also had Venom (not a Marvel movie but associated with it) on my list to see AFTER A Star Is Born.
If you also know anything about me, you would know that A Star Is Born is not exactly my “type” of movie, but as soon as I saw the previews for this latest remake, I knew that I wanted to see it. I remember back, years ago watching the 1967 version of A star is Born with my dad (he had a TOTAL crush on Babs!), and I couldn’t help think of him while I watched the movie last night. That movie then, at the time I was just a child, left me enthralled, though not understanding it entirely, and yet relating on a level (my mothers own battle with alcoholism), kept me enamored to its end.
So my plan was to go to Venom after Darek and I saw A Star Is Born. Venom was to start at 10pm (Darek opted out as he was tired), but I headed into the theater determined to take in another free movie! As I sat there thinking over A Star Is Born, I couldn’t get my brain to shift enough into a TOTAL different direction with Venom. The movie was just starting to play, but I decided at the last minute that I didn’t want to stay to see it. That is HOW much A Star Is Born left me thinking…..
Again, a tribute to Cooper and Gaga.
If you are a movie goer, it is MORE than worth your time and money to see this movie!
I loved it!
Two thumbs up!!
